Copyright for e-Learning

The Copyright in e-Learning is an important issue that we need to know about it. The Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U.S. Code) to the authors of "original works of authorship" including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, architectural and certain other intellectual works ( Montecino, V. 1996). Each instructor need to know about the copyright issue because they are creating an online course and deal with many materials and they use the Internet a lot to find a good resources. Technology makes the copyright be more comment. The history of copyright law is essentially the history of the response to developments in technology. The Internet has been characterized as the largest threat to copyright since its inception. The Internet is awash in information, a lot of it with varying degrees of copyright protection. (The Copyright Web site" http://www.benedict.com/). Also we should know what is Plagiarism?Plagiarism is the act of stealing and passing off the ideas, words, or other intellectual property produced by another as one's own. For example, using someone else's words in a research paper without citing the source is an act of plagiarism.
According to Virginia Montecino the owner of the work can copy the work, sell it, rent it and lend copies of the work. Also It is not needed to have a notice of copyright (i.e.: © 1997 Jane Doe) for items to be copyright protected in the America. There are some works protected on the internet. For example the unique design of a Web site and its inside such as links, original text, graphics, audio, video. And the rest of the unique elements that make up the basic of the items. When you creating a Web site you can link to many different Web sites but you need to check the requirements when you link to their Web material. Also when you use free images on your Web page. If the images are not advertised as "free” you cant copied without permission.
In the end, Virginia Montecino pointed to an important thing, which is there are many side of copyright issue and the Internet is still not resolved. The instructors need to know a bout it when the create a online course and use a resources from the internet.

session 8

This week's assignment asked us to develop "2-3 assessment activities/measures for the course hypothetically developed in Session 5". Of course these activities should incorporate points and concepts from the reading (chapter 10) and articles (Authentic Assessment Toolbox) (Continuous Assessment: Guaranteed Learning?). Particular attention should be taken to page 285 of the text, which is a table "Selecting appropriate assessment measures".
Also, we are supposed to incorporate assessment strategies of learning that we have experienced/used as a teacher and/or student that we find to be an effective method.

The assessment measures help the learning to success by giving the instructor accurate feedbacks about the students, after that the instructor can know what the problem and try to solve the problem. Also the book gives us a many different good point about the assessment activities. Also to achieve the learning goal the assessment most effectively major the learning process to guide it to the learning goal. (Text, pg. 266&267).
I will focus on the feedback because its impotent for me to make sure the students learend and reach the course goal (the most influential purpose for assessing learning gains is to provide feedback to learners and instructors" (text p. 265).

Before I assessment the course (as instructor) I should know the following:

First:

* What is Assessment?

Assessment is an ongoing process of setting high expectations for student learning, measuring progress toward established learning outcomes, and providing a basis for reflection, discussion and feedback to improve University academic programs. It is a systematic and cyclic process that makes expectations and standards explicit and public. (link)

Second:
answer these questions:
1. What I want the students to know
and learn?
2. What are my students learning?
3. What can I do to help students learn what
you believe they need to know?

Third:

Follow these steps:
1. Identify what students must
learn in my class
2. Develop tools to measure student learning
3. Create a systems to compile and analyze the
data that I collect with these tools.
4. Use all the information that I collected to improve/adapt
curricula, pedagogy, and goals.

Stassen and Doherty and Poe (2001) broken down the assessment process into three parts:
1. establishing student learning goals and objectives for the course.
2. measuring whether these goals have been met.
3. using the results to improve teaching and learning in the course.

Course Content Characteristics:
My online class plan:
Content:
Is this course I will focus to make every student feel convertible by using new technology, which is create a bloge.
Instructor:
This course will be design by me; I will use my knowledge in online learning. I will create my own power point.
Student:
The students in this class are college freshmen they don’t have online learning experience specially with blogs.
The expected students will be in the course between 9 to 12 students.
The problem:
Some of the students don’t know how to deal with blogs.
The expected Time of the course:
This course will be 2 weeks long.
Course Goal:
Develop students’ skills and make them able to create their own blogs.
Communication method:
* I will use my website and email to contact with students.
* I will ask student to view my own power point download skype program to communicate with each other so that they can do their project with each other.

General plan:
In the first and second class I will ask them to create their own blogs to post their assignment in it. They can find the steps in my power point that i create it for this class, and some recommend blogs in the teacher website “my website”.
Each student must post their assignment every week and also they should but same thing he/she like to share with another students, that not related to the subject “that make student be more active in their blogs “
^^^^^^^^

Sisson one:
What is the Blog?

“A blog (a contraction of the term "web log")[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.” LINK

How To Use Blog?
I will use my website to post the class information for example:
* Some recommended links to blogs, for example: (Wordpress) (Typepad) (Blogger)
* my own power point that I created to show the student step by step how can they create their own blog.
* Video explaining to the students how they can create a blog. "Video 1" & "Video 2" & "Video3"
* The Assignment deadlines.

Sisson two:
Design my blog:
You will select a template that will conduct your information.
You will write some of information about you, For example: your name, your interesting, and your photo.
You will but how we can contact you, for example: your email.

My post:
You need to post your assignment before the due date.

My Comments:
You need to post comments to your classmates.
“Students need to read each other’s posts and comment on them.”

My special post:
You need to post some thing you like to share it with your classmates. “That not related to the subject”, this idea make student be more active in their blogs because blogs should not be a solo activity.

session 6

Effective Instructional Methods for E-Learning

Take the either of the Learning styles quizzes (Multiple Intelligence Quiz or Seeing, Hearing, and Doing Quiz) or both. Based on the quiz results, describe your own learning styles. In order to help yourself better function in an online course (e.g. this course), what would you keep or change in terms of the course design and your participation style/pattern?

First what are the learning styles?

Everybody has a preferred learning style. Knowing and understanding our learning style helps us to learn more effectively. This is particularly true for LD/AD(H)D people because of their different ways of learning. Through identifying your learning style, you will be able to capitalize on your strengths and improve your self-advocacy skills. (link)

There are many types of the learning styles such as the Visual Learners, Auditory Learners and Tactile Learners.

I just did the Quiz and the result was :
.................................................................................................................................................................
Learning Style:
Visual learning style : 100%
Doing learning style : 88%
Hearing learning style : 56%
Visual learning style
You need to see information in a visual format and learn best from written information, diagrams, and pictures.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………....................

Before I take the quiz I was know that I would be the Visual learner. I learn through seeing more than any thing else. In the classes I need to see the instructor when he\she talk it is important to me his voice and his body language. I learn a lot through visual displays like the pictures, textbooks, and video. I like to take detailed notes to write all the information that I learned it from the lecture. I found this sentence in our textbook a good example for how is a visual learner. When the instructor provides more visual cues, the visual learner may perform better in a distance education class. (Text, p. 169)

To help myself function better in this online course especially the English is my second language I would:

  1. Using visuals to learning, including pictures, graphics, charts, outlines, story maps, and diagrams
  2. Organize the information, write down key words or draw some images.
  3. Use colors to highlight key information.
  4. I should be motivated and keep a positive feeling. Tell my self I can learn and remember the new things that I learned it.

What student characteristics/attributes (e.g. attitude factors, distance experiences, prior knowledge, learning styles) of the distant learners do you think you may encounter? Discuss why these characteristics are important. Discuss what you need to do address them?

The student characteristics are very important because of that I do the survey before I start my online class. I should know they like to learn? What type of learner style there are? How mach they deal with the technologies tool? I want my student be successes in my online course. Also I want them dependent on them self because I believe that when the students believe on them skills and always depend on them self they will be success in their classes. Student at a distance seem to assume more responsibility for their own learning earlier in the process than do those students who are enrolled in traditional classes. (text, p. 168)

* How would you establish classroom management rules (e.g. Environmental design, Rules & routines, Discipline, Keeping the students on track, and Developing Rapport) to help students achieve learning objectives while facilitating a learner-centered approach?

* List one specific learning objective you want to include in your online course and describe how you would design your class activities using one or multiple instructional strategies (e.g. problem centered learning, simulation, decision-making panels, class discussion, case studies, group discussion, tutorial, written exercises, reading, instructional gaming, exploration) to help your students meet the learning objective?

It’s not easy when you want to establish a classroom management you should focus on the students need and try to improve their skills and make them successes in the end of the course. Also when I establish the online course I should focus on the advantage of the online class:
• Students can play the lectures at anytime at any place.
• Students can send and receive e-mail between each other and the instructors.
• Students can share their information all over the world.
After I did the survey I will find the problem. I will try to solve the problem. I will put the expected Time of the course. I will post the course goal. I will Develop students’ skills and make them able to success in the end of this course. I will give the students homework every week to make sure they understand the course activity.
In the communication method:
* I will use my website to post the syllabus.
* I will use my email to contact with students.
* I will ask each student to view other student blogs and make comment in three classmates each week.
I will put some rules for example: Each student must post their assignment every week and also they should make comment in three classmates each week.
I will focus on motivate and engage students in an online class (us the instructors):
• Instructor should use a good ways to communicate with students he should communicate fast with his student, he should check his email and give a clear evaluate and send the email back to his student.
• Instructor should give a clear topic to students to make his expectations
• Instructor should use timely feedback that makes the student engage and motivate.
• Instructor should use a smaller assignments that focuses on the subject, this kind of assignment make student engage and motivate, also learn the subject.

The good instructional design can ensure that the course meets student needs in many ways:
* The good instructor always needs his student’s feedback about the learning experience in courses. When the feedback is negative the instructors should be flexible and fax any raising problems wail keeping the project on track
* The good instructor always want make sure his students understand his lecture by give them question in blackboard or by email.
* The good instructor try to make every student active in his blogs by ask him to add every post weekly, and also make comment in other student blogs.

session 5

In this session, we will discuss a systematic instructional design process for e Learning. Hypothetically, you have been assigned to teach a new online course at your place of employment, next term. Where do you start? What design process do you follow?

What is my job?
My job as instructor in this course:
* To deliver this course to the students and develop their skills to make them able to create their own blogs and adding their information there.
* To answer my student question.
* I should test every thing that my website include every thing Before I delivering this course for example: I will try to open my website, the power point, and all links by using different kind of software Mackintosh and Microsoft. After creating my online course I have to ask some of experts in this filed to test my course also the tools that I used also I will use the ADDIE in this class.
Where I do stare?
First I will create my website. This website will include the course document,
Each student must create own blog and post his/her assignment.
There are some video, audio and text in my website
I will ask my students to download free skype program to communicate with each other.
I will add some link videos from you tube that can explain how to create blog also my syllables will has my own power point that I created.
The important thing that I have done my website that I tested every thing that my website include.

Analysis & Learner analysis:

I should know the learner characteristics and I will focus on the following:
The Learner experience with the topic.
The learner experience with technology,
learning styles,
What kind of technologies tools they have art home.
The learner background.
After that I will do a survey to know the problems that may the learner faces it.
For example: if they deal with this technology tools before if no why not?

The goals and objectives:

The goals and objective should be focuses on the learners needs.
The objectives:
Learners will learn about the creating a blog.
Learners will create their own blog
Learner will post a comment on other learner’s blog.

The learning environment:

In the course the first meeting will be face to face and do the survey.
The rest of the course will be totally online. I will meet the learner by use skype.
The delivery options:
I will communicate with the learner by email if they have any question they can email me too.
I will create a PowerPoint that show them how can create a blog step by step.

The time line for the project:

This course will be two weeks long. Every assignment should done in Sunday before 12:00 pm.
After each assignment I will send a grades to students and I will give them four of days to fix their mistakes. The student who late delivery of his assignment he will lose 10% from his grades.

Design:

This course will be design by me; I will use my knowledge in online learning. I will create my own power point.
This course will be two-week sessions. In every session I will post every things that can help the learner to understand to content. Also this kind of defied make it easy to student to fellow up the goal.

Development:

The important thing in this part is major what the learner’s learned.
I should test the learner knowledge to make sure I achieved the goal.
I will ask the learner questions to make sure they understand the course.
I will focus on the feedbake to develop the course.
I will try to update my online class to reach what student want to success.

Implementation:

I will create a website that has a good quality of tools. Also I will use a high-speed intent. I will use the Microsoft ware
I will add some links for more information about the topic also I will post some video.

Evaluation:

The course should evaluate. The student feed bake is the most important way that can help the instructor to evaluate the course. I will do a survey to know what the learner learned in this course.
That ADDIE is very flexible when I want to change any part in this course. Also it is very helpful for the instructor and the learner too.

session 4

Web 2.0

Web 2.0 a great tools that can improve the learning by sharing our information and opinions with each other. I found a good and simple definition for the Web 2.0 and I like to shear it with you.

(The term "Web 2.0" describes the changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web designs that aim to enhance creativity, communication, secure information sharing, collaboration and web functionality. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web culture communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies.) (Link) http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Web_2.0

You can do a lot of things with Web 2.0. :
You can make many relationships with different people from all over the world by using (face book) or (my spice).
You can read some thing you like or knowing a different opinion by using (blog) or (websait).
You can see or share a video by using (youtube).
You can attending a meeting class by using (talkshoe)

The ways that I am and my friends use web 2.0 :
This tool can make every one in the same city, all my family and friends are in Saudi Arabia but I communicate with them every day by using Face Book or skype. My mom didn’t know how to use many programs in computers like skype and face book since I wan in Saudi Arabia but now she learned a lot of things because of my, she want to call me and my daughter and see us by web cam through skype program. Also my friends always ask me for the best programs that can we chatting, talking, and seeing each other. Also every day.. actually every meal my daughter and I watching Mickey Mouse videos or listening to music on YouTube, she do not eat her meals if I did not play the video. Know she can play the youtub lists by her self she is 2 years old. (The technology kids)

Colleagues:
By using blog we can share our information and opinion with each other. To be onus some time I understand the homework that I should do it from my friend’s blog through their posts.
Also I can communication with my doctors and other classmate by using email.
(talkshoe) and (dimdim) is a great tools that I deal with it in a different class meeting since I started my master in instructional technology.

Web 2.0 and education:
This web tools is improve the education and make the learners become active and the instructors become a experienced and creative because the following:
  • It is easy to use.
  • You can use it any time and anywhere.
  • Save time and money.
  • Take many different information and opinion from over the world.
  • You can save what you done and update it any time you want.
